Digital Resilience

|   Information

The topic of digital resilience was the focus of this year's SICP Symposium 2025 at the Zukunftsmeile in Paderborn. Under the main theme “Digital Resilience – Impulses for Value Creation, Security, and Technological Sovereignty,” representatives from business, research, and politics discussed how organizations can strengthen their digital resilience.

aixit GmbH was also there and contributed its assessment of the importance of digital resilience in a video clip.

It became clear that digital resilience has long since become a strategic success factor – not only for critical infrastructures, but also for companies of all sizes that depend on a secure and stable IT infrastructure.

What Does Digital Resilience Mean?

Digital resilience refers to the ability of IT systems to detect disruptions and attacks at an early stage, counter risks effectively, and recover quickly after an incident. It therefore goes beyond traditional IT security. In addition to technological measures, clear processes, automation, and employee awareness play a crucial role.

The goal is simple yet essential: to maintain business operations even under adverse conditions while protecting the trust of customers, partners, and employees.

Data Centers as the Backbone of Digital Resilience

Data centers in Germany play a key role in ensuring digital stability and sovereignty. As the operator of a data center in Frankfurt, aixit bears particular responsibility – because many companies depend on the reliability of the systems hosted here for their business continuity.

As Marius Nolte, Head of Innovation & Business Development at aixit GmbH, explained in the symposium video:

“As a data center operator, digital resilience is a central promise to our customers. After all, they entrust us not only with their data but often with the stability of their entire business operations.”

To uphold this trust, aixit follows a multi-layered resilience strategy:

“We focus on identifying disruptions and attacks early, mitigating risks, and – should an incident occur – acting quickly and in a structured manner.”

Automated recovery mechanisms and well-defined processes are key elements of this approach:

“They help us identify the root cause swiftly, isolate affected areas, and restore the necessary resources immediately.”

Ultimately, digital resilience is not only about technology – it’s about reliability and trust:

“In the end, we protect not just systems, but also the trust of our customers.”

The video features voices from academia, business, and the SICP network—including aixit's perspective—and illustrates how multifaceted the topic is in research and practice.

Insights from the SICP Symposium 2025

The SICP Symposium highlighted how multi-dimensional the topic of digital resilience has become.
Through inspiring talks and practical workshops, participants shared research findings, best practices, and real-world strategies.

  • Prof. Dr.-Ing. Matthias Hollick (TU Darmstadt) demonstrated how cybersecurity and digital resilience can reinforce each other,
  • Arne Lorenz von Reisswitz (Westfalen Weser Netz) discussed how intelligent energy networks can become more adaptive and robust,
  • Dr. Volker Krummel (Utimaco) explored the opportunities and risks of the quantum threat,
  • and Prof. Dr. Simon Thanh-Nam Trang (University of Paderborn) critically examined the EU NIS2 Directive and its implications for companies.

In the workshops and discussion sessions that followed, participants developed concrete approaches to strengthening digital resilience in practice – from automated security processes and sovereign IT architectures to resilient organizational structures.

A high-profile panel discussion concluded the event, featuring voices from politics, academia, and industry on the key question: What must be done to ensure Europe’s digital sovereignty?

Conclusion: Resilience as a Lived Promise

For aixit, digital resilience is not a buzzword – it’s a lived principle that shapes daily operations at our data centers in Frankfurt and across Germany.

Our goal: to build systems that are not only high-performing but also resilient and trustworthy. Because in an increasingly connected world, digital resilience forms the foundation of long-term trust and sustainable success.
